Three Poems from Kit Hornbrook

Kit Hornbrook is a romance enthusiast. She is currently working on her first novel of a long planned series, and when she’s not writing at a some coffee shop she’s wandering the shore of the beautiful Lake Superior  collecting rocks. As a femme lesbian her idea of love is strongly colored by her deep love of butches and the queer community in general, and hopes to always represent and uplift them in and with their works. Aurora

Bright like the morning sun,

Your warmth shines down and envelops me,

To gaze upon you is all I have ever longed for,

I welcome the burns you leave,

A small reminder of the your presence,

My eyes are drawn to you in every room,

Always willingly blinded by your beauty.

I relish in your fire,

Fill me with your passion,

Burn me; feed me; bathe me with your light,

For I was asleep when I first saw you,

And you have brought the most beautiful dawn

Dark Moon

Even in the darkness you shine,

Bright and powerful,

My eyes trace your shape,

They remember it by heart,

For it haunts my dreams,

Every night your soul calls to me,

I am helpless to resist it

Sinking Under

Sinking deeper into the darkness,

I surrender to the current,

Water surrounds me but I do not fear it,

For I welcome it’s familiar embrace,

She encircles me; welcoming me home.

For we are all born from her waters,

Our bodies formed of kelp and sea foam,

Nourished in her most beautiful pool,

The water of life flowing in us everyday,

Calling us home to her gentle waves,

Her caress keeping us afloat as the tide comes in,

For no matter how far we run,

We will always long to return home to her
