Cosmic

By Elizabeth Clark

I found you in the stars,

Somewhere after Venus,

Yet just before Mars.

I was an astronaut of sorts,

Floating along,

Among the cosmic quartz.

Your gravity pulled me in,

And then you hung me the moon.

Even the universe stood still,

As a cosmic love did bloom.

Your soul spoke to mine,

In a language only we knew.

Whole constellations made room,

Parting for just us two.

You asked me,

“Will you be mine forever?”

Sealed with a diamond,

And Neptune-blue sapphire.

Even Saturn blushed at the ring,

And so did I,

But that’s the thing.

For galaxies can die,

Suns can follow suit,

But the one cosmic constant,

Is my love for you.

I vow that to you,

Now and for forever.

It was written in the stars,

A celestial soul tether.

We are unbreakable,

That is always true.

So I took your hand in mine,

And promised forever to you.

About Elizabeth:

My day job is as a nurse, but I am a poetess at heart. I love that which drives us to passion-everything from cataclysmic rage to sweeping romance. I write behind a pseudonym, so you may call me Esme. I live between the prose. Poetry gives me life and so much fire. It is a sacred balm to my soul, as it is to so many of us.
