Before It Becomes a Memory

avant qu'il ne soit relégué à la mémoire 

nous idéalisons ce qui est déjà passé, sans jamais soupçonner que le présent est tout aussi tendre. 

nous couronnons le passé d'or, 

oubliant qu'il fut autrefois seulement cela; 

un jour comme aujourd'hui,  

un instant comme celui-ci, 

à moitié remarqué, 

à moitié aimé,  

à moitié vécu.

we romanticize what's already gone,  never suspecting the present 

is just as tender. 

we crown the past in gold,  

forgetting it was once only 

this; 

a day like today, 

a moment like this, 

half-noticed,

half-loved, 

half-lived.
