Year of the Snake

An End of Year, Reflective Poem by Kit Hornbrook

Year of the Snake

I wake burrowed deep beneath the earth,

There I shed my skin and lay it to rest,

For it had served me well for a time,

As I begin my ascent; I feel their roots surround me,

Guiding my path back towards the sun’s radiant warmth,

When I emerge into her bright embrace,

I feel a kinship with the mighty trees surrounding me,

For I too long to spend eternity basking in her beauty,

Ever growing closer to her,

So I make my new home amongst their branches,

Dreaming of being one with them for eternity.

Kit Hornbrook is a romance enthusiast. She is currently working on her first novel of a long planned series, and when they are not writing at a some coffee shop she’s wandering the shore of the beautiful Lake Superior collecting rocks. As a femme lesbian their idea of love is strongly colored by her deep love of butches and the queer community in general, and hopes to always represent and uplift them in and with their works.
